5 RIFLES
5 Rifles were the first to approach me and this was while they were still out in Afghanistan. I was keen to use the timber selections to represent the different countries: Oak as symbol of the Battalion's roots and foundation; Walnut (being indigenous to Afghanistan) representing the land they were operating in. A Baker Rifle was used as a guide to shape the Rifle legs, which were roughed out on a very old rifle stock copying lathe and then individually finished by hand. All the offices' names are etched into stainless steel plaques and inlayed around the solid walnut table edge. In the centre is a raised English Bog Oak disk, with 4 solid silver Rifle Regiment cap badges laid in to it.
